The gym is the perfect scenario for the comparison game. Playing that game can not only rob you of joy, but it can also rob you of progress. It is super easy to get discouraged by looking at what others are doing in gym. The person next to you ripping off sets twice as much as you could have been training for years longer than you. Even if that is not the case, every person is different. So many times in the gym I see people (pretty much always late teen/early twenty year old guys) clearly doing far too much weight on exercises. I am far from an expert, but often there is no question that it is too much. I want so badly to say to them “its ok brother, just do what you can.” Progress will come. Trying to do too much can both hurt you physically and make it to where you just don’t want to go to the gym. Soreness after a workout feels good, pain after a workout does not. Don’t hurt yourself trying to keep up with Greer on gear or Steroid Sam. Work at your pace. Make progress. Love yourself. I love you!
