Motivation is so important, but it is often such struggle The initial motivation is maybe the easiest because there is often some catalyst. Mine was the weekend with the boys and the scale getting way too high as I talked about last time. As you go, motivation can become tougher. Its something that I deal with every day. Its so easy to talk myself out of going. This is especially true when the scale doesn’t seem to move I fee like I’m eating right and working hard, but it won’t budge. The past few weeks, I’ve had a couple of random but very powerful spots of motivation. Or maybe just an excuse to tell these two stories that I found really awesome.
The first was what I thought was about to be an uncomfortable situation at the gym. I had just finished banging out some pushups and an older lady approached. I know what you’re thinking, which was probably the same thing I was thinking…she liked what she saw! I just knew I was about to have to break her heart (joking), but she came up to me and said I needed to do more pushups. I was little taken aback and just gave a nervous/uncomfortable laugh. She continued though…those looked too easy. You have great form. That’s not just to brag on my ability to crank out phenomenal pushups, but just knowing that someone sees what I am doing and chooses to come point it out was such a cool thing. She then proceeded to go crush it on the stairmastter while wearing a soft cast on her foot. She doesn’t know it and I have no idea what her name is, but every time I start doing pushups, I try to bang out just one or two more than I think I can do. It also just shows the power of words, especially in a place as vulnerable as the gym.
The second happened this past week. The gym has a separate place just for the trainers to train clients, and it allows them to work with younger clientele. My trainer and I were using the space, and one of the other trainers brought in one of his clients. He was probably in middle or early high school, and his body type was very similar to me at that age. It can be tough at that age, and that’s a really big step to take. He was killing it though. Seeing him in there absolutely crushing it was so awesome to see. He complained far less than me in my session, and everything his trainer had him do, he gave it everything he had. It was also evident through their conversation that he was making significant progress. This not only motivated me to give everything I had in that session, but it has stayed in the back of my mind since. If he can go in there and give everything that he’s got, then so can I.
She wasn’t hitting on…I don’t think.
